eating & making...

I made beef barley soup...and it was soooo good. Making this soup makes me really feel like I am cooking. It takes hours and hours and hours for this soup to be just right. Delicious! I am quite excited for cooler weather.

And I worked on my mini-book using the Housewife Kit...I love these supplies! I hope to get a few more pages done tonight and then I need to get cracking on some of the autumn class projects! Lots to do....

a case of the ickies...

I need some color today! I am under the weather and stuck at home. I think I'll make a big pot of soup to build up my strength. Hopefully I will feel up to being crafty or creative tomorrow :)

gloomy...

I've been kind of down in the dumps lately. I passed my test last week (yay!) and of course I am relieved. But Cory and I have been having a rough time lately and are taking some time to figure things out. I am going to do a major cleaning and maybe paint some walls in happy colors this weekend.

Happy Birthday!!

On September 18, 1983, my life changed forever. My two sisters, Molly and Erin, and my brother Nicholas were born. We were a family of 6 for just a few years and then our baby Michael came along. Now that we're older, I can honestly say that they are not only my siblings, but my very best friends. Love you guys!! Happy 26th birthday!

sweetness

I can't remember where I found this adorable pic of felted wool Totoros...but I am posting it today in honor of my host family in Japan. I lived with them for a summer when I was 15 and then I lived in Japan again for 2 years when I graduated from university. I lived about 3 hours away from them at that time, but I visited them at least once each month. And they were the most gracious and welcoming hosts to me and a great number of my foreign friends living in Japan. I miss them! I heard from my host sister and father this week by email and it made me soooo happy!
We all go through times when we make less of an effort to keep track of our friends and family who aren't in close proximity to us. But hearing from them reminded me how important my relationship with them is, and encourages me to make these small efforts with other friends I've lost touch with.
P.S. It's almost Friday....I really need it to be the weekend.

ugh...

Test is finally over, thank goodness. I won't know if I passed or not for a few days...fingers crossed.
I was home sick today with a not-so-fun stomach flu, that's where the "ugh" comes in.
Here are some cute things I came across today while surfing:

I have a ton of quart sized mason jars and this is a super cute and inexpensive gift idea. I think I'll give it a whirl! Image and recipe from Bakerella.

I loooove that Penguin is releasing another set of their classic series; they also have some new cover art that rocks, spotted this on Design Sponge.

And I am gearing up for some cooler weather already and am loving this hat from PolkaDotRobot. It still feels like summer temperature-wise, but I can't wait for crisp fall air!

promises...

I want to be a better person. I want to be the someone who deserves you.

polaroid

The test countdown is 4 days. It will be a busy and not so fun weekend. But I did have some fun today converting lots of photos into polaroid format via this website, which I found on ohdeedo.

Psst...

Marshmallows - you and I can continue to hang out well into the fall.
See you round the fire pit!

Later summer...

Feels like you were once again, too short. My first go at a tomato plant was a bit of a failure; I blame your abundance of cool and rainy days.
But I have to say I didn't at all miss the typical humidity and scorching temps.
Thanks for that - see ya next year.

Oh and...

I have lofty goals of blogging much more regularly...I think once I knock out this test, there's a fighting chance it will happen. For now, just wanted to share a couple of things I saw whilst browsing that struck muh fancy.
This trailer mansion is brilliant:

I am in the mood to watch this again:

P.S. A big "you are awesome & thank you!" to Heidi of Bury Me in Leaves who saw my wish list and sent me the Lisa Hannigan album Sea Sew. She found me through the Autumn class...how flippin sweet is that? Pretty darn sweet if you ask me :)

Catching Up...

I am so looking forward to getting my test over with on September 15th. I so want to devote all my time to crafting & creating, but I got a little behind in my studies and need to do some catching up this Labor Day weekend. And as you can see (ugly blog header) my to do list from the last post did not get entirely completed. Ugh. I have a day off next Friday so I'm looking forward to a short week, then getting the test DONE. After which I will tackle:
Housewife Kit... gorgeous...I may start on this tomorrow if I get my studying done early. It will be my first ever mini-book. My goal is to take some new photos to use in it as well!

and then I am super stoked to start...

Rachel and Elsie's Autumn class promises to be amazing. I took the Pretty class last year and can truly say I have never been more inspired! I worked in the morning today and had slept terribly last night. So I wasn't feeling the fire today - I have to admit that I cracked out on some internet today and we decided to "camp" in the living room (code for we dragged the mattress into the middle of the living room and are now watching movies).
Here's to a much more productive tomorrow!
