sewn projects...

I found an awesome jumper tutorial from Smile & Wave...I am waiting to sew on the straps until I can try it on Addie. This jumper was my first ever article of clothing...it was challenging (I got some good use out of my seam ripper) but still fun. Since I had the sewing machine all warmed up, I decided to tackle this sketchbook cover from the RVA Style School class. The fabric totally reminds me of summer :)

the sweetest...

This afternoon I got to spend time hanging out with my parents and this little sweetie, my niece Addie. I feel like it was just yesterday we were all anxiously waiting at the hospital for her arrival, but her 1st birthday is fast approaching (April 3rd). It's been so fun to watch her grow & do new things. She looked like she was seriously considering taking her 1st steps today; she also waves, shakes her head and gives high fives! Today she also threw up on me (twice) and peed on me...good times :) I hope to be back with lots of finished craft projects tomorrow

Soooo excited to have snagged one of these kits from Evalicious which I will be saving for our trip to Montana in August. And, I am pretty darn happy it's the weekend.

amazing...

I haven't been watching much of the Olympics but I have been blown away by the human interest stories. The Olympics just opens up the word to the stories of all these athletes, who dedicate their lives to working unbelievably hard and feeling pressure many of us cannot imagine. Everyone has their own story, some sad, some unbelievable, all inspiring. I watched the skating free program tonight. All I can say is....wow, those women are amazing.

Tonight after work I drove up to Chicago to pick up my sister from the airport. She was flying in from D.C. for a bachelorette party this weekend. I am seriously getting old, it was a total of about 5 hours of driving & I am exhausted. It was pretty windy and I felt like I was fighting with my steering wheel. And I was blinded by other lights about half of the time. But I listened to some great music and sang my darn heart out with Ingrid and Jason..and I got to catch up with my sis

thoughts...

this is my dash - my sister took this photo
& this is what central IL looks like...in summer

I cannot wait for sunny days, blue skies and the color GREEN!!!!!! In other words, I am officially through with winter. The snow has mostly melted so we are left with a sloppy, muddy mess but it's still pretty coooold. I am excited to wear sandals, take the dogs on long walks and enjoy picnics in the park! Spring....hurry up!!

oh martha...

I was looking on Martha's website for the instructions for this little bunny made with menswear fabric (I want to make one for my niece Addie's birthday, which happens to be the day before Easter)....when I stumbled across this gorgeous photo of my dream kitchen....

...which happened to be part of a series about making your kitchen green; at which point I found instructions for making this adorable little market bag from a pillowcase. The craft to-do list grows ever longer...

w.i.p.

My sister recently moved to Washington D.C. (right before snowpocalypse 2010 actually). I was trying to think of a cute, spring yarn & felt wreath to make and it totally inspired me to do cherry blossoms! When I lived in Japan, springtime was probably my favorite with the abundance of delicate cherry blossoms. I am still working on the arrangement here - I want to do something with dark brown felt for branches. I haven't quite figured it out yet.

photo album...

This chipboard photo album was a quick & satisfying project, made even more amazing by my discovery of plaid duct tape!! You can find the instructions on Kinsey Girl, which I found via Smile & Wave. We actually ended up rallying last night instead of just breaking in the new couch! That is a big deal for us, generally we are big-time hermits. We went out with some friends to a comedy club, it really was fun!! I weekends!

February 19, 2010

phew!!

This week was the longest - not bad really, just long days at work. Tonight is designated for relaxing only; we have to break in our new L-shaped couch! It's like a lounge pad for all the members of my family (2 dogs + cat included)...and we all fit at the same time!
P.S. Hope to have some projects or at least works-in-progress to share this weekend!

inspiring...

I saw this over on Curious Bird today & I absolutely love it! It is from the Love Letters For You Mural Project in Philadelphia - definitely worth checking out the gallery on their site for all the others. I think it is amazing & beautiful! Also, I am soooo ready for the weekend; this week has worn me out!

Cory's car is headed to the car graveyard, so we are now a one car family. Unfortunately, I do not live in a place where public transportation is convenient or accessible so with us both working and him going to school full time, things get complicated. I am hitching rides home from work with my brother for the next few days, but next week my schedule will change and that won't really work. But we're pretty sure we found a replacement; and even though it's an icy blue grandma car, I think it will work for him :) And our new sofa finally came in and is amazing!! I am looking forward to have nothing scheduled for the weekend except a shopping trip with my boy + netflix + some mad crafting.

a full day...

Last week I got absolutely nothing done. So I decided I needed to start this week out strong. I walked 2 miles while watching an episode of Dexter right after work. Then I made banana muffins - this recipe is awesome! I am going to freeze some and use them for quick breakfasts. Cory made me an unbelievable dinner tonight, he actually grilled out steaks in the snow :) Then I worked on this project from last year's RVA spring class. I have had the fabric for-e-ver. It is a little wonky but it's just for picnic & such. It just felt good to accomplish something!

valentine

This is my 1st Gocco print, and let's face it - she's a little sloppy :-/ I know where I went wrong though - the photocopy I used of my little sketch to make the master is grainy as well; {note to self: remember this for next time}. But other than that, it really is incredibly easy - this video is superb help.

February 6, 2010

guess what?

I got my very first Gocco in the post today!!!!!
I got a great deal on it & the shipping was lightning fast...even all the way from Japan! Amazing :) I am so excited to try it - but first I have to bake some cookies for the Super Bowl tomorrow.

treats...

Is it weird that it's snowing outside yet I am still going to eat a sundae from DQ? It has been a loooooong week & we are needing a little pick me up over here :)

February 3, 2010

the stack...

Here is a stack of books I've been meaning to read. Some are ones I bought, others are gifts or recommendations. When I lived in Japan, I was a voracious reader. In the last few years, I haven't been reading as much as I'd like. This is one of my resolutions.

about Wednesdays...

Addie's look in this picture is kind of how I feel about Wednesdays in general.
P.S. Is it wrong that my sister and I love to do things like the above and think it is hilarious?
